What is HTML and does it matter? |
HTMLHyper Text Markup Language (HTML) is the programming language used in the design of webpages and other browser based displays of data and other content. The definition could go on with explanations of tags, styles, parameters, inheritance, etc., etc. But, that's enough of that. Why is it so useful? The websites you see every day are a very clear example of the application of HTML in different variations, implementations and programming methods. It is useful to the creative developer because it is a method of organising the pure content and messages (the text) in an intelligent way (with main headings, sections and a hierarchy of importance). A second layer of information is then held that describes the way this content is displayed (colours, fonts, position on page etc.) Then add in special programming techniques to manipulate data, change and swap content dynamically and visually play with the appearance on screen and you have a very powerful set of tools. For the creative marketing purposes of businesses around the world this is opening doors that are only limited by out imagination. So, the purely technical understanding of HTML matters to the people that code, craft and modify it. Understanding the possibilities of HTML should matter to the creative marketing professional.
